ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANTS WITH 16 YEARS' EXPERIENCE

Based on the Island of Skye, the Skye Environmental Centre Ltd are a group of ecological and environmental consultants with many years of experience working with the main ecological organisations in Scotland and England including: Scottish Natural Heritage, The Scottish Executive, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, the Wildlife Trusts, Highland Council Ranger Service.  We have also provided private consultation, surveys and advice for the Duke of Hamilton and various individuals concerned with planning applications, in sites such as Nethybridge, Peebles and southern Ireland.

Dr  PAUL YOXON 

1979:  BSc Hons Geology and Physics, Keele University

1999:  PhD  - The effect of Geology on the Distribution of the Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra) on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, Open University

Experience: 

1979-1984:  Seismic Processing, Geological Consultant North Sea, Skye and Ireland.

1984 –1996:  Director, Skye Environmental Centre. The Centre is a registered Scottish charity and runs Environmental Educational programmes, biological surveys and recording and a wild animal hospital.  

1993:  Set up the International Otter Survival Fund.  At the present time IOSF has 3,500 members worldwide and has funded projects on otter conservation in Russia, South Africa, Turkey, Lithuania, Chile, Guyana, Thailand and Vietnam.  IOSF currently employs 4 members of staff and Paul Yoxon is Head of Operations.

GRACE MARIANNE YOXON

 1979:  BSc Hons Geology and Biology, Keele University 

Experience: 

1979-1980:  Research into the First Land Animals at Cambridge University.

1980-1982:  Civilian Assistant, Broadford Police Station

1982 –1984:  Personal Assistant to Director, Libby Weir-Breen Public Relations – this company specialised in public relations for tourist related business, such as Shetland Tourist Board.

1984:  Set up Skye Environmental Centre. The Centre is a registered Scottish charity and runs Environmental Educational programmes, Biological Surveys and a wild animal hospital.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

* Adviser to the Scottish Office on otter road mitigation measures on the Skye Road Bridge - current  

* Advised Scottish Natural Heritage on the effect of proposed sewage development at Dunvegan, Isle of Skye.  Advised Scottish Natural Heritage on the usage of Portree Bay by otters in connection with proposed development. 

* Field Survey for Halcrow Crouch for Otters and Badgers for Lochcarron Sewage system.

* Field study of badgers in the Comrie area of Perthshire (1984)

* Collaborated in field survey of badgers in Central Forest Biosphere Reserve, Russia – with Dr Katchanovsky (1995)

* Examination of old badger signs on the Isle of Skye (1998)

* Rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned and injured badgers and otters in our own wildlife hospital
